Shadespire/ Aos Painting Journey

I recently got involved in playing Shadespire when it was released back in 2017.  It is a fun game that hits some of the things I like about gaming; small model count, deck building and cool gaming accessories.  We have a small group of people that starting pushing models around at the local game store and they started talking about AoS.  One of the benefits of Shadespire is the models can be used in AoS.  So a small league of about 14 people sparked up and we all started playing Path to Glory.  This was a slow grow league so we could learn how to play AoS and started collecting our armies.  I jumped in with playing the new Orruks and built an Ironjaws army.  I have been having a blast and really enjoy playing the game.  To me it has some of the rules from Lord of the Rings that I like and plays rather fast, our armies are around 1000 points.  The league has come to an end and now I have all these new models to paint.

I was able to talk Jeff into pulling out his Legion of Azgorh and getting them on the table.  He has an amazing Forge World collecting that never got painted and now he is excited to start playing them.  We decided to start a painting journey getting 1000 points painted over the next few months.  We will be sharing our progress on our show and I will keep my blog paged updated.  Tonight I finished my Shadespire models and I am really happy with how they turned out.  I am still working with Yellow for this army and feel I have this color down.  I will start working on some new color receipts moving forward and some new paints.

Dark Age and CMON

My buddy Jeff recently played Dark Age while on vacation.  He really wanted to start pushing this game around at our local store and build a community for it.  I already had two armies for the game and decided to paint up my Brood force.  My goal was to order a starter sets from CMON while I painted my Brood force.  This is one of the games in the CMON catalog that is direct order only.  On January 9 I placed my order to CMON for two starter sets, one for Jeff and the other for me.

While I waited for my order I painted up my Brood force using oil paints to get the base coats down.  Once the oil paint dried I did the details with acrylic paints.  These are old sculpts and are not the best quality.  They worked fine for learning to use oil paints and I could still push them around the table.

A few weeks passed and no notification from CMON about my order.  On January 25 I decided to reach out to the company by phone and Facebook to get an update.  I had to submit a ticket and a few days later my order was shipped.  This was good news and I was all set to start playing the game.

My order showed up and when I opened it I found two copies of Wrath of Kings.  Not what I ordered and a bit of a disappointment.  I attempted contact on Facebook and was told to submit another tickets.  This was on a Friday morning and I submitted another ticket.  No word from anyone so on Tuesday morning I reached out to CMON by phone and spoke to a receptionist who got my ticket processed.

I started getting emails asking for additional information so that a packing slip could be sent out to me to return the wrong product.  I provided the information and asked when my product was going to be sent out.  I was told that my product would not be sent out until they received the other items back.  To top it off, I was sent a Ground packing slip meaning the items would not be returned for a week at minimum.  This was upsetting to me because this was a mistake made on CMON's end not mine.  I was told it is a company policy not to ship out the replacement items until the other items are returned due to some customers not returning items.  I must have been in a bad mood or just offended but I felt like I was being called a thief and that I was not trustworthy in their eyes.

After considering my experience up to this point; delayed shipping, wrong items being shipped out and not answering my tickets, I decided to just get a refund.  There are too many great games on the market these days to put this much effort in supporting a company or a game.  I really feel CMON needs to make improvements in their company before I will purchase anything form them again.

As to the models that I painted, I could spend some more time pulling up more details but since I will not be playing Dark Age they will just be stored away.

Deluxe Mixer

Recently I purchase a serious paint mixer.  I saw this product floating around on Facebook and track one down for myself.  This is a lab grade product made many years ago.  It does not have any computer components just old school electric components.  I took some video to show you the mixer in use.  It really mixes my paint and can be used for any type of paint pot.
