Hobby Desk Revamp

Back in May 2016 if finished my Hobby Room renovation.  I posted a video showing the work that I had competed and my hobby room layout.  One of my goals was to use the space for a period of time before finalizing my hobby desk.  I spent the last few days breaking down my hobby desk and putting it back together again.  One of the challenges I was having was not enough work space.  I had too much stuff on the desktop and I could only work on one project at a time.  I was also using my space as a catch all for my hobby stuff and it was getting cluttered.

One of the reasons I decided to go with this Ikea set up was the low cost to replace the desk top if it got damaged over time.  The wooden boxes on the top desk top caused it to sag in the middle due to the amount of weight was had become an issue.

Once I took the desktop and shelf down I had to flip around the brackets that held the shelf in place.  They were in the way and just bugged me.

Once the brackets were flipped around I put my space back together again.  I started with a new desktop that I purchased for $30.  I took the original top shelf and cut it down to 15 inches to become a middle shelf and used the original desktop as the top shelf.  I also purchased some more storage boxes to hold all my paints.  These boxes cost $20 and each box holds 30 Vallejo paints, so that is 180 paints in total.  I have organized my paints by color and have a mixture of different brands and these boxes hold all my paints.

Adding my light to the middle shelf is so much better on me and my old eyes.  I will add some extra lighting under the top shelf but it will be a soft light not a painting light.  Now I can set up my airbrush booth on my desk and still have room to work on other projects, all my paints are organized by color and put away.  I just really like how just adding this one shelf has changed my hobby desk and created my work space.

Ork Weird Boy

So I spent this week working on my Weird Boy for my Ork army.  This model came out of the this box set.  It really fits in with the rest of my army and is just a great looking model.

Not much to talk about with my painting style on this model.  I used a verity of different painting techniques from wet blending to good old fashion dry brushing.  I did use the rust wash that I talked about in my last post on the metal armor and the brass on the weapon.  I really like how this wash works on metallic colors and it will become part of my regular painting style.

Now I have 1000 points painted up and ready to roll and I want to get another 1000 points done before the end of the year.  The challenge I have is not having the Ork Codex.  I am building my list based on the Index and feel that this list will change once the codex comes out.  Oh well just more models to paint, darn.

Killa Kanz

I finished up my unit of Killa Kanz using some new products.  Lets take a look.

The first one I painted was done using a chipping fluid from Vallejo.  It turned out good however I was not very excited about how the model turned out.  I just really does not match my painting style and looks out of place in my army.

The second one I painted I used a light rust wash from the Mecha paint line by Vallejo.  I really liked the way this model turned out.  It matches my paint style of my army and made painting yellow easy.

The last one I painted was done using the dark rust from Vallejo.  This also turned out great and will look amazing in my army.  What I discovered with this product is what it does over a metallic silver.  It gives it a great color that I feel will work better with a bronze dry brush over it.  I will be giving this a try on a test model in the coming weeks.

I really like this new rust washes and I can't wait to use it on other models.

News From The Outpost Sept 2, 2017

Today we launched a live stream at Imperial Outpost Games.  This is going to be a weekly live stream talking about new products and scheduled events.  This has been my motivation learning how to live stream and we are still learning.  Still having some audio issues with low volume, background noise and the camera shaking when we bump the table.  We have a plan to correct these issues and will be able to present a better live stream over time.  I am always open to feedback and show ideas.
